Kingston at Ecobuild

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

Kingston University will have a major presence at Ecobuild, the world’s biggest event for sustainable design, construction and the built environment.

The main focus of Kingston’s display will be the industry launch of Rematerialise, our unique materials library. The collection has over 1,200 samples that use less virgin resources and are easily renewed. Rematerialise is a popular resource that has become a catalyst for collaborations between Kingston University and industry, including high-profile brands such as Marks & Spencer.

Other features include an exciting graphic exhibition that will tell the story of how design-led research by academics and students has made a difference to sustainability and society through projects about behaviour, architectural technology, surveying, dementia, renewable materials and product design.

Join Dr Paul Micklethwaite from the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture who will be launching his new book Design for Sustainable Change (co-authored with colleague Anne Chick) and hosting a series of intimate and engaging round table events with special guests that can be followed via Twitter and his blog.

Kingston’s presence at Ecobuild will establish the University as a centre of sustainability expertise across various disciplines.

Enhancing Enterprise workshop at Brunel

Free Designplus symposium
15 September 2010, 10:00- 4:00
Brunel University, Newton Rooms, Uxbridge

Whilst the value and importance of the creative industries, design and design education are repeatedly highlighted by Government agencies, professional bodies and high profile exponents, there is perhaps a more pressing need than ever to more effectively connect the UK’s amazing young creative talent to the universal agenda of improving our economy and people’s lives through innovation, successful products, services and organisations.

Within Design Higher Education the solution isn’t simply bolting on Entrepreneurship classes.  Although this approach may be helpful in certain cases, there is a need for a more integrated approach which embraces the diverse, complex and creative cultures of Design in the UK.  But with over 55,000 undergraduate design students in the UK, small steps to enhance enterprise can build momentum.

Featuring case studies from Kingston University and Brunel University.
